Senator Craig

Okay, even though the Senator Craig issue is scandalous, all the political cartoons are hilarious! Here's one...

I simply remember my favorite things...

Well, Audra tagged me to write my 10 favorite things. So, in no particular order…

Prayer…isn’t prayer awesome?!! Our direct line to God 24-7. It is so comforting. Some of the most wonderful times I had in college were spent with my MSU sisters in prayer time. Prayer allows me to open up and pour it all out. Seeing the answers to my prayers is awesome. God, if he so chooses, can work fast! Once I consider all the answers He’s given, I begin thanking God for all of the blessings in my life.

Justin…my favorite person in the whole world!! He is such an awesome man. Who doesn’t like him? I am so fortunate that we’re a pair. His attitude and work ethic are amazing! I learn so much from his positive can do attitude. He provides for our family through the easy and tough times. Justin is so handy around the house too! I am always nervous when he takes on house projects or car repairs, but every time it turns out well! He’ll whip out the screw driver and go to town and vola la, it’s done! He is always up for a project (sometimes to my dismay; I favor naps). He is also great with chores (*thanks*)! Justin’s funny, as if you didn’t already know that. What a hoot! I love giggling with him all the time. His comedy always changes my mood, even when I’m mad. I cannot stay mad at him for more than a minute, really. But the most important is his sincerity and love for God. I love hearing him sing too (at church and anywhere else). Trust me it’s not pretty, but he’s so cute when he sings. He makes up songs for me and I love it!! And wow, what a hunk he is in his Sunday best!!!! Also, how many guys do you know would give up TV without a fuss? Mine did!! I’ll stop here before it gets too long.

Fall…the sky is bluer, the wind is cooler, leaves skip along the sidewalk, trees swish in the breeze! Ahhh, I love it! What a wonderful time of year. I feel like a new person every time I walk outside. So rejuvenating! Also, college football starts.

Sleep…oh boy how I love it. Lying down after a day of work, there is nothing better! Resting my head on the pillow is luxury! I can sleep pretty much anytime of the day, almost anywhere.

Lucy…my favorite puppy! She is a constant companion. I don’t know what I’d do without her these days. She provides a great sense of security, which is really important to me. Even though she has some settling down to do, overall she’s wonderful. Lucy is great entertainment too. I love watching all her funny quirks. When she was a new puppy, I would hold her all day long. Really, I’m not kidding. Justin came home with me still in my PJ’s holding Lucy. I told him I couldn’t move because I’d wake her up. Of course, I’m not like that now. If we get this much joy from a dog, I can only imagine what it will be like with a kid.

Mama, Daddy, Leigh…What a great fam I have! Leigh and I are so fortunate to have been brought up in a house that loves and serves God. Mama and Daddy are such great examples. They are so generous and selfless! They both have amazing endurance. How awesome is it that Leigh lives right down the street from me? It is so great. She is so much fun and so talented. If it wasn’t for her, I wouldn’t know ¾ of the songs I know! If you haven’t had the opportunity to hang out with her, what a treat you are in for when you do! Both Mama, Daddy, and Leigh are always eager to be excited when I am excited, comforting when I’m down, and open ears to hear all details of my life…(*thanks*!)

Grandma and Papa…in Tallahassee. There is nothing better than sitting at Geem’s & Pop’s house drinking coffee at their kitchen table, working the crossword or Jumble, Grandma cooking something wonderful and Papa rarin’ to debate the latest/hottest topic. If we aren’t in the kitchen we are in the sewing room working out a sewing project, while Papa makes our ears happy with his music. I love going to their house and spending time with them. There is never a lack of entertainment or activity. I have to be one of the luckiest girls in the world to have such amazing grandparents. If only everyone could have a chance to experience family love!

Reading…I don’t do enough of it. But I love leaving everything behind and enter an imaginary world or engross myself in a topic. It’s relaxing and (once again) a luxurious experience.

Photographs…I can never look at enough photographs. I love how cameras capture images of emotion. There is something mysterious about pictures, but at the same time comforting. I love looking at my grandparents and parents when they were youngins’ or even strangers! It is one of my favorite things.

Friends…I have so many great friends! I love seeing them again and again. There are so many fun times we have had together. I love being able to pick up right where we left off, if I don’t see them often. I love that with each friend I have a different connection with them that makes us close. I also love making new friends!! Friend enrich life and make it exciting!

Prayer for Emily

I have a special prayer request for our dear friends in Texas. Many of you have had the Allen’s on your prayer list in the past. If you remember back in March, their second little girl, Emily, was born 10 weeks early. The Lord has been so faithful and has answer yes to so many prayers for Emily. Now we are petitioning the Lord on behalf of Emily and I ask you do the same. Yesterday I received an email from her mom, Samantha. I can’t say it better, so I’ll let her tell you. It gives scope to the picture and the many different requests that can be lifted.

“We noticed over labor day weekend that Emily had a small hole in her lower back near her tailbone. We found out this morning that there is a strong indication that she either has spina bifida or a tethered spinal cord. She needs an MRI to determine exactly what is wrong and the severity of her condition, but due to her respiratory distress in the early days of life the risks of sedation with anesthesia do not outweigh the need for further testing at this time. So once again I find myself with a sick baby and nothing to do but wait. Please pray for Emily and our little family as we realize that everything we have been through these past six months is not in fact over and behind us. Both conditions require major surgery and could leave her with leg braces or in a wheelchair. I am trying to be strong and brave. Trying not to think of the worst case scenarios but you know how hard that is when your children are involved. God has been so good to us so far and I know he will not desert us now. Please pray for Emily's healing and for strength for our family to face this next hurdle in life. The plan right now is to watch the hole and wait for her to get stronger so further testing can be done. Dr. Nail told me this morning that even if we went ahead with the MRI a surgeon would not operate on her until she is older and stronger. I was really not prepared for this news and fully expected to hear that it was common and no big deal.

I know it might seem almost petty to be so devastated over this... I mean God blessed us with her life, she is ALIVE and home with us... I shouldn't care if she ends up in a wheelchair...but I do. I want the best that life has to offer her. I want her to be well. Please pray for Emily. God has answered our prayers for her little life thus far and we know he hears the prayers of the faithful.”

Please keep Wayne, Samantha, big sis Lila, and Emily in your daily prayers. I can’t image the weight that is on Wayne as he is the mainstay. I’ll keep you all posted as I know more.

Maroon-White, FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT!

STATE DID IT!! WE WON!! (Note my surprise)What a great game it was. Really, even if MSU hadn't won, I would have been proud of the game we played! It was so fun! We sat among the sea of orange in our Maroon attire. We had plenty to yell about. As we were in a rush to get to the game, it didn't even cross our minds to apply or pack sunscreen. What a mistake. We sat pretty high up (what a great view though) and the sun was shining on us the entire game. I know I am fair, but I didn't realize just how lilly white I am. Needless to say, I am cooked; I now match my maroon shirt. Ouch!
What a surprise for us at half time, a "son of Auburn" performed...Taylor Hicks. I've never heard him before. Too bad I wasn't excited. The sound system was really bad, so I should still say that I've never heard him. Yeah, that's him on the white platform in the middle...

All the Auburn fans were gracious about the loss. As we walked back after the game, Auburn fans congratulated us on our win. I know it was really painful for them, but what a WOW for MSU!! Credit should definitely go to the MSU defense. They made it all happen. Our poor quarterback cannot throw. If we have to get down the field, it's not going to happen. The defense and special teams have got to get us on our own 35 for the offense to score. The offensive line is good, but throwing is NOT our game. We need a quarterback coach and special teams (our kicker isn't good either). So, I don't expect too much for the rest of the season. My only request is to beat Ole Miss, Please!

Here we are at the beginning, middle, and after the game. Note change in skin color...

GO STATE!!

Friends from church gave us tickets to the Auburn v. MSU game for tomorrow! We are so pumped! I have hopes that MSU might win. We just came off a win (wow!) and Auburn got what was coming to them last week. So I'm hoping that the combo of a high for MSU and Auburn feeling defeated, it will end with a MS State V-I-C-T-O-R-Y!! GO DAWGS!!!

Table Arrangement

Hola Amigos! On Tuesday night Leigh and I had a little shopping trip. We ended up at Hobby Lobby and all the flower stuff was on sale, so I went ahead and made a purchase. I've been scheming a flower arrangement in my head for a year now. So, here is the first step with the purchased flowers and I am FINALLY using the greatest feathers, given by my dear friend Sam (who lives in TX). Leigh was a great assistant and spurred me on to the finish line. As we were putting in the feathers (the last step), the power went off. We couldn't see a thing. So we had to call it quits for the night with an ALMOST finished arrangement. Last night we added the last two feathers. I think the end result came out nicely.

Blue

This is a really funny comic strip, Get Fuzzy. I'm not sure how this will look on the page, but if it's too small to read, here is the link: http://www.comics.com/comics/getfuzzy/archive/getfuzzy-20070909.html
Have a great Monday, is that really possible? I never thought I'd be like this, but I'm "workin' for the weekend..."

Stupid Whoopie

Today I am venturing into another area in the blogging world…an opinion piece. I need to cultivate my writing abilities, so here’s my first shot. Comments, critiques welcome.

I would like to begin with a statement from the “illustrious” Whoopie Goldberg.

"[F]rom where he [Michael Vick] comes from" in the South, dog fighting isn't that unusual.
"He's from the South, from the Deep South ... This is part of his cultural upbringing,"
"It's like cockfighting in Puerto Rico," she said. "There are certain things that are indicative to certain parts of the country."
"How about dog torture and dog murdering?" another asked.
“For many people, dogs are sport," Goldberg replied, "and it appeared it took awhile for Vick to realize that he was up against serious charges.”
"I just thought it was interesting, because it seemed like a light went off in his head when he realized this was something that the entire country didn't appreciate," she said.

First of all, Virginia (where Vick is from), “Deep South?” I don’t think so!

Second, to suggest that dog fighting is a culturally excepted practice in the “South” is incorrect. Everyone has at least heard of dog fights, but the gaming and torture of animals is unacceptable and not common place in my South. There are sub-cultures that condone this type of gamming (two adjectives come to mind), but once again the southern states are being generalized and lumped into one category, backwards and ignorant.

Thirdly, just because your mama, cousins and uncles do it, doesn’t mean its right. We are all responsible for our own behavior. Quit trying to pass the buck! Own up to your own sins! God gave us a mind and a conscience, and choice so use it!

Self Critique: It’s not great. Not much of an impact or punch. I couldn't come up with a closing statement. Any suggestions?

I could have gone another way with this opinion...agreeing there are cultures that are low class, violent and stero-type, but I thought I should restrain. And I shouldn't get into whether or not he has "found" God. God won't be happy with that judgment.

Labor Day Weekend

I hope y'all had a fab Labor Day weekend. Leigh and I took a little trip to visit Grandma and Papa in Tallahassee, FL. We had a great time. Geems and Pop are the best grandparents ever! Papa was in a fine mood and Geems cooked up some scrumptious meals! We even did some sewing projects.

Last Christmas Leigh, Justin and I gave Geems a kitten for Christmas. Well, this cat rules the household and his name is Dixie (b/c his is from the heart of Dixie, Montgomery, AL). Papa calls him the "orange streak," but he has been further been dubbed as "a flame loose from the pits of Hell!" Grandma is always telling stories of his mischievous and at times evil behavior. He was on really good behavior for us, but he does not like to be disciplined. When you swat him, he comes after the hand that holds the rod. But he can be lovable and purrs so loud, which makes all injuries fade from memory. Grandma and Papa love that cat!
